Hopping from Heisei to Reiwa era…

Yours truly had been fortunate to have the opportunity and liberty to stay in since 1987.
The Showa era was coming to an end soon after I arrived.
The Heisei era came into being, and the major part of my life has been in this era.
Tomorrow, a new era in the form of Reiwa will kick off…
Hmm, imagine, having lived in Japan through three eras… nice…

End of April flowing over to early May marks the so-called ‘Golden Week’ holidays.
I had initially planned for a private travel to Taiwan but I could not get air tickets.
So, I stayed back and decided to invite a bunch of international and Japanese students to my home to do some outdoor cooking.
But we had to postpone it due to the rains.
Which leaves me with plenty of time for myself.
And as in the above picture, I was fooling around with our ukuleles…
I was playing the baritone… love its beautiful timbre…

My ‘suweeto-haaato’ had been doing hula dancing for years.
One day, she decided to try out the ukulele, and she bought a concert model (orange colored).
I had always been hopeless with string instruments, but four strings?
We decided to purchase two more on our recent trip to Mactan Island, Philippines.
Me, the tenor (second from left), and my missus, the soprano (the little one on the right).
Both these instruments were very well made, and their sounds, excellent…
Not long after, I knew I had to get the baritone (the largest one on the left).
My favorites are the tenor and the baritone…

I had also planned to do a lot of things in the Golden Week, like fishing.
Unfotunately, I had also developed a bad sore throut, that slowly but surely deteriorated into an equally bad cough… urrgggh…
Anyway, thank god I can still move around a bit…
Like going into the bamboo forest to hunt for young bamboo shoots…

This year is the 7th year that I am keeping chickens…
I find this to be as rewarding as vegetable/fruit gardening…
My number aim is to get eggs from them.
Then, by observing their behaviors, I learn a lot about them…

Well, I have yet to go fishing for ‘fish’ as yet…
But, I did go hunting for shell-fish.
There are not a lot of them, and I stopped once I get 10 of them.
And my sweeto-haato makes delicious spaghetti out of them.

And the rains, they can bring the temperatures down quite a bit…
In the evening, it is a heavenly feeling to sit in front of the wood-stove…
