Turned 60 today…

On this 8th day of July 2018, the Year of the Dog, yours truly turned 60…
In a previous era, turning 60 was a rather big deal… but not so these days…

I don’t really fully understand it, but apparently, turning 60 marks the ‘return to the starting point’ according to the Oriental zodiac calendar…

My sweeto haato baked me a fruit cake, decorated with a heart-shaped candle…
She also bought me a long-sleeve shirt, and some socks…

But, on this same occasion, Japan is undergoing a tragedy…
Hence, as a sign of respect, no photos for this post…

We are still in the rainy season, and for the first time in decades, the rains fell and fell as if there is no tomorrow…
In my vegetable garden, a section collapsed, creating a big hole in the ground…
Elsewhere in Kagawa Prefecture, there were some landslides from the rains…
But compared to other neighboring prefictures, Kagawa’s situation is rather mild…

At the time of writing, 76 people had lost their lives, with 60 over people still missing…
All these are from the neighboring prefectures…

Next week will probably see the end of the rainy season…
But, at the same time, the typhoon season is just beginning…

Update 10th July:
1. Thank you to many friends and associates who voiced concern about our well being in this time of disaster in Japan. My missus and I are safe, thank god. However, the death toll had climbed to 157, with anther 57 people still unaccounted for.
2. Yes, as predicted, the rainy season has ended, and as if on cue, the temperatures are shooting up the roof almost immediately.
3. On turning 60 not being a big deal these days, yes, but still, am very grateful to reach this milestone, and I intend to keep healthy, hoping for many more moons to come by…

  1. Happy 60th! All the best to you .

Sorry to hear of the flood calamity in Japan. Hope the situation stabilises.

  2. I’m sorry to hear about all the flood damage and deaths in Japan. Hopefully the rains will soon end and the typhoons will stay away.

Happy Birthday! I’m not going to tell you how many years ago I turned 60, but believe me, you’re still a young man!

    • Dear George… thank you so much for your kind words… From your writings, I imagine you are still very active, and thus, quite young yourself… 🙂

Thank you for visiting!
